Terms of service
The agreement between you and us when you use Undertold. Written to be read, not skimmed past.
A working first draft for a Sweden-based consumer subscription. Company details are placeholders, and the text will change before launch.
About these terms
Undertold is provided by Undertold (company details to be confirmed) (organisation number and address to be confirmed), “we” or “us”. By creating an account you agree to these terms and to our privacy policy. You must be at least 13 years old, and if you're under 18 you need a parent or guardian's permission to buy a subscription or top-ups.
Your account
Keep your login details to yourself and tell us if you think someone else has used your account. You're responsible for what happens under your account. One account per person.
The service
Undertold researches topics you choose, proposes a documentary, and after your approval produces it as audio with narration, music and sound. Production usually starts playing within minutes, but times vary and we don't guarantee them. We're continually improving the service and may change features; if a change significantly reduces what a paid plan includes, we'll tell you in advance and you may cancel.
AI-produced content
Documentaries, answers, voices, music and cover images are produced with AI systems. We design the process to use real sources and verbatim quotes only, and every factual line links to its sources. Even so, episodes can contain errors. They are for information and enjoyment, not professional advice (medical, legal, financial or otherwise). Check the sources for anything that matters to you, and use “Report a problem” when you find a mistake.
Narration uses synthetic voices. Quotes are read by synthetic voices too, not by the people quoted.
Plans, minutes and payment
- Free includes a monthly allowance of documentary minutes and a maximum episode length. Premium is a monthly subscription with a larger allowance, longer episodes and extra features. Current allowances and prices are on the pricing page.
- When you approve a proposal, its length is reserved from your balance. When the episode is finished you're charged its actual running time (capped at 15% over the length you chose), and the rest is released. If production fails, the reservation is released automatically.
- Research, proposals and revisions don't use minutes.
- Monthly minutes reset every 30 days and don't roll over. Top-up minutes don't expire while your account exists, and are used after monthly minutes.
- Premium renews automatically each month until you cancel. Cancel at any time from your account; you keep Premium until the end of the period you've paid for.
- Prices are shown in US dollars and include VAT where applicable. Payments are processed by our payment provider.
Right of withdrawal
Under EU consumer law you normally have 14 days to withdraw from a purchase of digital services. When you buy Premium or a top-up, you ask us to start providing the service immediately and acknowledge that your right of withdrawal ends once the service has been fully provided. If you withdraw within 14 days, we refund the purchase minus the value of minutes you've already used.
Acceptable use
Don't use Undertold to create or share content that:
- is hateful, harassing or threatening towards people or groups;
- is sexual, or sexualises minors in any way;
- encourages self-harm, violence or other harm, or gives dangerous instructions (for example weapons or drugs);
- defames real people, invades their privacy, or presents speculation about them as fact;
- impersonates someone, or is designed to mislead people into thinking it is a real recording of them;
- infringes someone else's rights.
Also don't try to break, overload, scrape or reverse-engineer the service, get around limits, or resell access. We may decline requests, remove content, or suspend accounts that break these rules. Where we can, we'll tell you why.
Ownership and licences
You keep any rights you have in the topics and notes you submit. Subject to these terms, you may use the documentaries you create for personal, non-commercial purposes, including sharing them by link. Commercial use requires our written permission.
You give us a licence to store, process and play what you make in order to provide the service to you and the people you share it with. We won't publish your private episodes. Undertold Originals, the app, our brand and our production process belong to us.
Episodes draw on third-party sources. Those sources remain their authors' property; we cite them so you can find the originals.
Liability
We provide the service with reasonable care and skill. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have as a consumer under mandatory law. Beyond that, we're not liable for indirect losses, or for decisions you make based on episode content without checking the sources. Our total liability to you in any 12 months is limited to what you've paid us in that period, except where the law doesn't allow such a limit.
Ending the agreement
You can delete your account at any time from your account page or by emailing us. We may end the agreement with 30 days' notice, or immediately if you seriously break these terms. If we end it without cause, we'll refund unused top-up minutes and any prepaid Premium period.
Law and disputes
Swedish law applies, without limiting the mandatory consumer protections of the country where you live. If something goes wrong, write to us first at hello@undertold.app. You can also turn to the Swedish National Board for Consumer Disputes (Allmänna reklamationsnämnden, ARN) or the EU's online dispute resolution platform. Disputes are otherwise decided by Swedish courts.
